Cause and Affection

By veingo

Most of the species couldn't pick their own soul
from a police lineup.

But every now and then, there is found,
a diamond among broken glass.

If you get close enough, and concentrate hard.
Like reading the bible, on the head of a pin.

It's all stark white, but it's not all the same.
.
.
.
.

This ain't no dress rehearsal, darlin;
life is meant for living.

So get into character, and play the part hard.
.
.

Carry with you proudly, that you control my smile.

And I'll promise to display it whenever you're around.

Those first 2 stanzas stand on their own, the rest of the poem ties it all up nice and tight. I played that game for too many years, my fakey fake smile is gone hopefully forever. Much enjoyed this, I like this style ;) - XXOO Scholar
