Lesser of Two Evils
By Melancholic VIncent
Pieces of chewed papers
Othere just torned appart
Looking carefully
Seems like newspapers
Taken away by the wind
They flee before
anyone can read them
But one piece gets stuck on the garbage pile
Points out news from ten years ago
2050, the date that changed everything
Global poverty averted
There were no more hungry, no more
thirsty
Progress of science erradicated the diseases
The luxury
was a part of everydays life
Everything began to change
But
not people's way of thinking
The streets were once inhabited by drifters
Beggars, folk people, the less fortunate
Now were populated by the
putrescence
Toxic clouds, brown waters, decomposition
CIties
fast became deserted
Unable to sustain the greed of its former inhabitants
These fled to the colossals Metropolises
Fortresses with no acess
to the outside world
Between Doctors and Majesties
The abundant
money bought a title for everyone
The high society, the perfect society,
were available to anyone
Sweeping the streets had became a Tabu
Everyone were highly qualified to that job of low-level
Everyone
were blinded by the sunshine of golden bars
The planet became
a global dump
Prisioners of their wealth
Humans were living now
on their sealed fortresses
Total quarantine for undeterminated time
More than the trash that were defecting the exterior walls
They
feared with all arrogance
The airs of yesteryear of poverty and humility
The recognition of Doctors and Majesties
Destroyed the planet with
it's vanity
Before them, many lay on the ground with excessive bows
But the street-sweepers were an inconvenience to society
No one
looked at them, no one wanted to see them
Now, only they could save
the world
But everyone were too much good for that
Then the world
dies at the hands of inertia of men
The streets of the dying cities,
were a reflection of the rotten heart of humankind
Men made it's choice,
to not live in material poverty, decided to live in decayed spirituality
Lesser of two evils
Author's Note:
This is a possible future for a world that no one has to do some jobs that may be considered an humiliation, but may be the base on where our society is build upon. If no one does these jobs, no one can live in harmony and order. It's like an wake up callComments on "Lesser of Two Evils"

Indeed. Also, it's an hypothetical vision of the world taking the pride of people too far. It's a wake up call to those who valor more the doctors than the known as lesser jobs. People forget the importance of the simple tasks and only remember certain jobs in society. Thanks for stopping by

Two thoughts: 1). this is what happens when you're society is dedicated to the welfare state, and 2). It's not what you own into the future, it's what you can hold onto. Cheers Vince!

Very clever. You tell a story that captivates and makes us think. Pride cometh before the fall..

There are a lot of jobs that many people give a bad look to those that do it, but these lesser jobs are the machine that makes the world function properly, and I wanted to create a metaphoric world where none of this would exist, to make people think.
