Fireflies
By Leith Plunkett
He told her angels were born with the melding of two souls
and fireflies the tears of other angels
that would guide them back to each other
…
She places a candle delicately against her lips
searching the flame for some kind of heartbeat
His body, his love, his light
lost to her now in mauves and violets of a day forgotten
The breeze breaks her trance
intimately dancing with the candle
carrying with it the smell of late summer blossom
She places a candle delicately by the open window
moving the hollow candles to one side
cold now from weeping fireflies
Their little wings unable to carry her prayers
beyond the darkness

its amazing what one person sees verses another because this took me to a distant place...one that no longer exists...and maybe never did...such beautiful words from a beautiful soul.

imagetic in its fragility; the delicate balance of hope and belief......feeling and trusting. . .. so much quiet unsaid sadness it seems....bordering melancholy......intimacy and intricateness.
