The Truest Love - Sonnet 2
By Delphoid-Q
I behold your visage from afar
And stand as if by spells enchanted;
Nothing may your heavenly beauty mar
Nor may my eye from thine splendour be supplanted.
I envisage us reforged as one
So much in love, so much at peace;
Celebrating love below the cerise sun -
Joined until our lives shall cease.
But you share my obsessive visions not
And stare me down with eyes of liquid fire;
Your gaze degrades my love to but a staining spot
And I melt beneath the pressure of your ire.
Throughout this verse one thought pervades my mind:
The truest love is of the unrequited kind.
