Batteries Not Included

By Rhys Ki

Never has a house made a home
And who could love that rock in their shoe?

But how was I to know
They refinanced their home
The day that I moved in?

In the beginning I thought it would all be just fine,
Writing scripts for the fantasies in my head.

But now I’m out of reasons to believe
And I’m ashamed of this lie I’m living.

For their sake, I know I need to leave
Like I never wanted anything.

But the pain I’m creating now is still less
Than the wounds that I left behind.

I’ve been long torn between the two,
Serving as a crutch for each side.

I can’t even breathe ‘cause the houses are wired.
With this split family some assembly’s required.

And no matter where I go, I am secluded.
Now, I know that batteries just aren’t included.

Nah, I've found that what I think are my better works are usually the least read. I know some others share my sentiments.
