The Funeral : My dark reality

By Kinkypoptart

My entire world changed today
One small building with..
That small grain white siding
Redbrick pillars so welcoming
To hell they lead, to misery
Lint covered carpeting worn
From all weary prisoners
Of guilt and hardcore shame
All carrying one question...
Was it my fault?
The dim lighting an adjustment
From the sunlight outside
Pleasant photos and paintings
Lakes, Flowers, Children, Trees
Houses in the middle of nowhere
Surrounded by wildflowers
Rows of chairs, upholstery red
Facing the curtain, also red
Blood red, much the same
As satan's staff and fiery home
Hushed voices quiet with each
Solemn step, each inch traveled
For my sake it should be guessed
The lover? The friend?
Which label will be stuck today?
Rosewood Casket
White silk covers the interior
His very favorite, his own choice
Red roses, twelve to be exact
Stuffed into the creases
Of an American flag
Atop the casket
Black tuxedo baby blue cumberbun
Hands folded in an unnatural way
Across his stomach
They watch in silence as I cry
I run my hand down his cheek
A few more tears fall
His mother sits in silence
Alone and detached from the event
I take the empty seat next to her
Pat her leg... the eulogy begins
I only catch a few words
My thoughts so jumbled
Great man, soldier, son
Brother, American, Friend
Compassionate, kind, loving
Friendly, caring, considerate
Last viewing for the family
Mom doesn't move
"You deserve this more than I do"
She whispers
Behind the curtain I cry
A fountain of tears falls
My soul breaks in two
"I love you my dear Michael,
Take some of this with you..."

Geez, this gave me chills. Beautiful, yet so sad. I suck at comments, but this really was very emotional. I read it twice, and almost cried..
