Losing what's already lost

By torn_beauty

I cried when I heard
He was taken away in the night
and she cried when she lost
one as well.
I don't think I know a person
who hasn't lost someone so dear.
I know we all lost a piece of ourselves
when alcohol or drugs got in the way.
Taking away the joy of seeing his face,
or hers.
You don't just lose them when they die,
you lose them when they've looked
you in the eye and you don't know them anymore.
Sometimes, they just get in the way of
a speeding car, or a bullet meant for
someone else.
The worst part though,

It doesn't stop.

Amazing write. It only further confirms what I've always known was the truth
