antivenom

By missanthropic

hopelessness is a venomous poison
that paralyzes,
slowly arresting,
life little by little
sickening discharge
that thickens the blood
resulting in sedation

we have all been victim
trying to hear
exactly what we saw - -
just off the path
gleaming rare spots of sunlight
seductive poles,
beckoning us to stray away-
in search for the intangible rainbow's end
we are led into fertile green fields
and there among the clover
beneath the buds of mother's spring flowers
it comes, smooth natural colors patterned across
and around its scaly body
moving in hypnotized circles - -
the mind writhes with thoughts on the inside
it leads you away from safety
towards a void of possibility
with lurking embellishment,
it sizes you up-
this bite of change will consume you
