lost souls
By missanthropic
you sit there exuding nothing but irreverence - -
though all appears flattering on the soulful, i admit
it is not becoming on the lost - -
at regular intervals i have been witness to your mind
slowly being consumed with the impartial fervor of a machine - -
exhaustive, fecal brain particles
escaping that orifice once used to speak such truths
i too have been seduced by the passivity of following
and equally so by the power of leading
we all endeavor to prove our worthiness
longing to be breeders of change
with all the heart of a mother defending her child
crystal eyes once so omniscient
they crowned you savior of the souls
who seek now only to return the favor - -
though they appear dull in color,
even my brown orbs know,
foolish pride is not easily exchanged for principles
why when blessed with such potential and ability
to grace those truly in need of your cosmic strength
with awareness of their own power - -
do you now choose weakness?
do you not remember that the legends of martyrs
are quickly forgotten
by those undeserving of such a sacrifice?
your will continues giving,
choosing to withdraw from the privilege, rights and liberties
we often take for granted,
bound to a faction and confining yourself to a cell
now it is you who needs protection
while your gift withers in the shade of injustice
those who know and love you as i do
will stand in reverence to you - -
guardians of the light you have given us
with hopeful prayers that yours might persevere
