A Private Level of Hell

By Sudos

As you step into this massive chamber crafted of blackened arjale, a sense of dread fills your mind as nightmarish purple flames ignite the room, reacting to your presence. It drips from the ceiling and reaches out from the walls with wicked tongues forked a thousand times, not to lick your flesh, but to eat at your very soul. As the fire penetrates every fiber of your being and stirs up every insecurity and all the hatred you have ever felt simultaneously, you wish a thousand times the pain was physical and the flames were melting your flesh eternally rather than feel one more second of this inner turmoil.

Man! Yes! Words to feelings I find it hard to describe but you sure captured them! That inner struggle. Very good write!

One die-roll, souls counting time. Who says a private level of hell can't be shared?

I'm not quite sure how you managed to jam pack so many visuals into such a short space, but you did. I'm not quite sure what "arjale" is, I tried looking it up but no luck. Otherwise a short but sweet piece and that author's note - what a terrifying place to visit. Reminds me of the concept of the "mirror of truth". I have a hard time even looking myself in the eyes in a normal mirror some days. Sorry to ramble, but just wanted you to know this really resonated with me and you left a lot of room for the mind to wander and to ponder. Very nice job :)

If I remember correctly, I first read about arjale in an Ed Greenwood novel about Elminster. Either that or it was in D&D. Anyway It's black and one of the strongest types of metals. As to the visuals, I feel the same way! It's not everyday I write 50 word sentences!
