Marks on a Page
By RedWolf
The words aren't always there
Wondering, losing the flow
Just marks on a page
Except when I'm feeling low
Not knowing what to write
Lacking a creative muse
Grasping at random thoughts
Everything is merely a ruse
Pondering back to works of old
Poems no one ever read
To the paper crumpled and thrown
Or frustrated and shred
Pieces strewn across the floor
Ones that made me choke
Or that which was burnt
Blinded by tears and smoke
These thoughts I write
A release from the cage
Simply nothing more
Than marks on a page

I feel that your last stanza doesn't give itself enough credit. These may be marks on a page but, as you say, they are a personalized release from our cages. Thanks for sharing :)

And yet those same marks ensnare moments and feelings in time, posing them in prison portraits on display. The paper is the lock, the pen the key, poetry is power over our circumstances, and I for one enjoyed your "marks". Write on, and welcome to The Valley.
