Medusa (contest entry)
By dumbone
I am still here
Waiting for her to return
For I am stone
All flesh and blood I ever had now is gone
I never saw beauty
In such terrifying form
Each hair on her head
Had eyes, tongue and the voice of its own
I have heard stories about her
Of all the heroes
Of all that died in her garden
In a quest for glory
I knew that we were the same
Pawns in this world
Where God of Lightning
Wrote down our names
And when I had the chance
I dared to look in to the eyes that shed fear instead of love
I prayed for her
And became that what I am now
...a stone...

I liked that you were able to take a well known story and shape it into something unique here. The idea that the individual turned to stone perhaps found themselves in this situation out of an attempt to free with love rather than by having been seeking glory or a weapon. I'm not sure what the structure of the contest this was originally submitted for was and that has me curious. Either way, nicely done :)
