Who really messed up my life?

By Melancholic VIncent

For so many years
I have chased my enemies
With a hatred glance in my eyes
Faceless shadows disappearing
In convenient dead-end alleys
Mocking me, these unknown foes
Laughing loudly, fading away over the rooftops
WIth boots hammering tiles made of inexorable steel

Unable to pursue such avoidant personas
Masters of the elusive ways. They escape like skeptical ghosts
Successful in every attempt in their evasive maneuvers
Soon I forget about such zealous antagonism
Just until some intelectual byproduct triggers another undying quest

And there I go
Chasing more ethereal demons of the mind
What would you expect?
That one day you would finally catch them?
You can't catch what wasn't there in the first place
Those retinal images running away are just the madness in your eyes

Reminiscent sane thoughts are drown in a deluge of lunacy
Struggling to send through last bits of reason, they die unheard

In another of those rainy haunted nights
On one of my endless hunts
I caught my breath instead of one of those perpetrators
The flooded concrete with rain had shown me it's face
It's true face magnified in the whole deluged city for all to see
Staring me in the face
Mimicking the contempt and revulsion I was letting out
Master of thievery ways, he stole my face

We're always our own worst enemy. At least this is all too true for myself... Awesome write! I've missed you xoxo

But eventually we should be able to come in peace with ourselves. Not easy though. I am trying to return to writing. Thanks for your comment. Kisses

And sometimes we find out that we were our own enemies. Seeing our own reflection staring back at us through the haunting rains. ~^_^~ love the depth in your poetry*

You understood the essence of it. I did this while listening to some melodic music, they are the best to bring to the surface deep emotions

People run around blaming others for what happened to them but the truth is that the choices that we have made in life lead us to those bad situations...this a really deep and insightful piece.

Thanks for your comment. Indeed most times we are responsible for our own situation. We pursue our enemies for later to recognize them in ourselves

The enemy is me! Marvelous job Vince and I was rooting for you to catch one of those buggers. I think I'll look next in a parallel universe! Much enjoyed the introspection, well done!
