Finality Is Absolute
By Malcholm Dark
"There
are so many ways to die. Yet in the end,
the face of death remains
the same."
Stumbling drunk down a dark alleyway
Puking uncontrollably, I fall down.
Lying unconscious in oblivion
Choking in the darkness on my vomit.
My last moments on earth,
unknown to me
For my finality is absolute.
*~~*~~*~~*
Dying in my bed, a withered old man
No one here beside me, I am
alone.
Darkness closing around me, gasping breaths
Tears
of loneliness streaming from my eyes.
My entire life flashing
before me now
For my finality is absolute.
*~~*~~*~~*
Sitting here, I'm contemplating the end
The gun in my hand pressed
against my head.
Life has become a sorted misfortune
My
finger pulls tight around the trigger.
Splattered essence
on the wall behind me
For my finality is absolute.
*~~*~~*~~*
Attacked in a park, by myself at night
Beaten and stabbed,
I am left there dying.
A pool of blood growing large beneath
me
I'm fading to black while clinging to hope.
Life
passes by me like thoughts lost in time
For my finality is absolute.
*~~*~~*~~*
Lying here in a cold hospital room
Kept alive
by life support equipment.
A continuous beep shatters the
night
My eyes open with one last look of fear.
The words
"code blue," resounding through my head
For my finality is absolute.
*~~*~~*~~*
December twenty-first, two thousand-twelve
Planets
align, the earth snaps suddenly.
Massive tidal waves plummet
the planet
Nothing can save us as we wash away.
We cry
out in our last moment of life
for our finality is absolute.
*~~*~~*~~*
"There is a price attached to the lives
we live. And
in the end when that price
comes due... finality is absolute."

"Invictus" comes to mind by what's his name? From the personal to the global in a single piece, marvellously wrought. You had me doing a double take though on mugging yourself in the park (HA)! Funny how the mind works, cheers M!
