This Love that once was ours.

By Cherry Bear

A single diamond on a silver band
We had it at that moment
A simplicity of what love was
Uncomplicated by the world

Perhaps had we not upgraded
Grown up and moved apart
This love that once was ours
Could have made it far

But as the case turned out
Nine diamonds on a gold band
Our love it did fade
As though it was made of sand

Creeping out of our grasps
Returning to the sea
A love that couldn’t last
Yet in a box all alone

A single diamond on a silver band
Reminds me of what love was
When children held each other’s hand
Promises forever where made

We walked in to love so blindly
Knowing only the innocence of fall
We fell out of love so bitterly
On the banks of a summers eve

Days seem to pass by so slowly
The ocean seems to weep
Grieving for a love gone sour
A man becomes a boy

But now as things have turned around
We both know where better off
What started out as whispers
Ended in a yelling match

Pulling out the drawer
Picking up the box
Flipping open the top
A single diamond on a silver band
