The Ultimate Betrayal

By brokensme

when the gates come crashing down
and the castle walls are breached,
you finally have time to rally the troops
but all you hear is the screech
of men, women and children burning in the town

The fight won't last long
you send troops to sure defeat
anything to give your people hope
but as you start to melt and bleed
then you remember to stand and be strong

which is something you wish you kept in track
because the sounds are growing closer
and closer
until your head cranks over
and you feel the steel through your back

with your dying breath
you look to see
who your conquerer is

the last image you see
is your allies, brothers and mate

"the last image you see is your allies, brothers and mate"...been there many times (metaphorically).. it use to enrage me.. now it just zeros me out like an emotional flatline. comfortably cold. nicely said.

Betrayed by by those held in arms length, the death of your kingdom. This piece definitely reminds of downfalls in the past, write on. Scholar
