Freedom Isn't Free

By MoonLitShadowz

"Freedom isn't free"
We've all heard it once before
About the soldiers who are willing
To make the ultimate sacrifice

Each has their own reason
To suit up and ship out
Put their faith in one another
And the gun glued to their side

Whatever the reasons that
Make them leave behind
The loved ones not forgotten
But swiftly put away

Quite clearly they pay with
Blood and sweat and tears
But less remembered are the missed
Birthdays, anniversaries, first steps

Thanks are all the public have
To give to them, who fight
So that we all may live
In a world where we are free

They go so we don't have to
And pay more than the rest
No thanks will ever be enough
Will not bring back the dead

And we who are their support, the loved
Ones put aside, will always remember
To be grateful for their sacrifices
While we remember our own.

All that really matters anyway is the thought that seems to have spawned this well written and well thought out piece. Great job. I wouldn't change a thing. --Draven

without their sacrifice, we would have nothing... go back to G. Washington and the blue coats... that's how close we came to being British... Nice piece, write on
