My dishwasher scares me (only at night:)
By freudian-slip
Grab the t.v. remote
providing myself the illusion of control
simulated safety
Just as each new night promises repetition of ridiculous proportion
trained monkey movements
I climb further up the cushion seat
in conjunction
with increasingly ominous sounds
My heart irregular and equally loud
Almost immediately
I see the problem
yet unable to summon the courage
end the cycle
simple push button relief
impossible to complete
If I step my feet
off this couch
the boogieman
will most definitely get me

This is delightful and cheeky with just enough truth--an aficionado of the Horror Flick myself I have been in this situation--terrified by some household object--take it from an expert--do NOT hang jackets on your upright vacuum cleaner handle--wake up in the night and you'll be as convinced as I was there is an evil troll or something in the corner...anyway, what I really came to say is I really enjoyed this write.

Ockham's razor is your best friend here. The simplest explanation being the most likely, I think you have little to fear other than a lovely imagination. LOL! I truly enjoyed this.

usually, the "hunters" debunk hauntings by tracking down EMF spikes from surrounding electrical wires, outlets, etc.

EMF - Electro Magnetic Field - sometimes, devices or wiring, if not shielded properly, or internally shorted, will put out a high EMF field. Often, high EMF fields can lead to paranoia, strong feelings of discomfort, hallucinations, dizziness, etc... the "creeps", ya know?

so sorry, but I chuckled... reminds me of empty house nights while watching ghost hunters and GHI. I can't say that I was ever afraid of the shadows, but I often wondered if I should check for high EMF readings. ;) I'm mostly just numb, now...

...and jumping back to the t.v. remote that opened the tale: how often is that true... click..click..click.. which life shall I project myself into tonight? what will I choose to mute my mind? simulated safety, indeed. Quite a brain challenging entry into what seems to be such a simple tale.
