Past Memories

By wandering druid

In days of old with younger eyes
I spied in time many things
Mountain peaks and caverns deep
The temple tops where the phoenix sings

Tales of old and everafters
Preceeded tears, preceeded laughter
And in taverns, song inwove
With glorius feats and sharp despair
Bought food and drink like silver or gold
While bringing on a nostalgic air

Oh journeys long and arduous
Frought with peril and awe-spiring views
By roads to see the wonders old
Off paths to discover treasures new

Trails were made and journeys found
On pebbled paths through village streets
On forest trails of dirt and leaves
Within cavern cracks small and discreet
Stoney roads through mountain halls
And snowy ways up to the peaks
Through valley folds and grassy knolls
In slumber whilst dreaming deep

Ages pass and worlds change
Empires fall or frail with age
And loved ones' voices fall silent in death
Footprints stamped on stagnant paths
Are paved in brick, then gravel at last
The last reminders of those who've left

But still those journeys linger
Though rare and silent they may be
They call to those with troubled souls
Whose sole desire is to walk free

And so I know now, never shall
The wandering of old be through
For where the gravelled highway ends
There I will find untrod paths anew

I found myself immersed in this. Elegant and simple at the same time. Incredible...
