I am Afraid
By Spiritus_Frumenti
I am afraid, I know it,
I feel it sweeping thoroughly in my soul
Speaking to me in the darkness of sleep
In my detriment faculties hitherto unseen
Impulses to hide never so forthcoming
Or wanting to die never appeared closing
I am afraid, I know it,
I feel it pulsing in my veins
Touching me deeply
Compelling me to weeping as long as the night stays
As long as the stars gaze infinite with pain
I am afraid, I really am,
I know it-
I feel it drowning me-
Beneath rivers that never meet the oceans
Currents pulling me under, not able to breathe,
Perpetually sinking into a world
Lying here patiently for me
As I knew, I really did,
And this is why I was always afraid...

I agree with urban humility. It is great to explain things in words as well as possible. I liked the write, and I hope you write more. This poem deserves to be the poem of the day:)

Fear can be a killer, "what you fear most, you will cause to happen" (old saying), but true, usually seen in hindsight. Juan, you are the quintessential dark poet. S.

Mindscapes, what you create in your mind, you can be a bastion of strength, or a shivering being...wanting to die has always vexed me, how can anyone want to die, when they have not lived...

This reminds me of people who bask in self-deprecation, who refuse to see their comforts...Well written as always

sometimes, the deeper you see things, the more the painful aspects of reality are realised, an imaginative mind can become a deep burden, just as thier is infinite beauty then there is always the possibility of an opposite,
