inaugural season

By missanthropic

three years from the stepping stone
and i still stumble on flat ground, alone.
there have been so many steps taken,
to avoid this calamitous miscalculation

different avenues exploited and explored,
but these familiar streets
still pave the unknown path i have yet to meet

mark! the weariest of travelers
blistered feet, broken heels and a soul
worn beyond the scope of even that cliche

i have seen the paths of those before me
and am troubled by visions of crossroads ahead
still wandering
and pondering
which way to go and,
will it lead me here again?

with no guide, nor destination in my sight
pushing forward with all my might
fueled by Fate's incompetence
i captain this inadequate vessel
much in need of maintenance

riddled with the scars of a journey
i did not design
Athena, i pray to you-
ask your husband to send the jolt
that might propel me towards any heaven
i care not which or whose
so long as i know that
upon arrival
i shall be as welcomed as
wings to a newborn angel
