Dust

By Midnight Phoenix

The magic seemed to disappear
As the last shimmer of pixie dust
Fell softly into the great below

A dark quiet freezes over
And the surrounding emptiness
Seems to weigh heavily upon
This meager soul

Remorse offers company now
With each short breath slowly fading
Wiping away the emotions once felt
Leaving just enough residue in memory

Small bits of thought left sparkling in my palm
Each beautiful crystal cutting deep
Yet I hold tightly to them out of nature
Hoping for some sort of release

But the shards ignore my plea
And with each thought I wince
A little more until the memories
Cut themselves apart from this
Quiet soul
Forever
