The Hall

By Hope in despair

I stand in the middle of a dark hallway. The air is cold, and a strange presence fills the hall.                                                                 At one end, a dark and grotesque figure is at a doorway, it's clawed hand and twisted figure shouts insults and blasphemy towards me. " Stupid! Ugly! Worthless!" It shouts, it words piercing my heart like fiery arrows. At the other end, A bright light shines from another doorway,  and another figure, a figure awesome and indescribable in words. A presence of unfathomable power, but also welcoming, and inviting. He speaks, " You are special" You are of great worth! You are unique and beautiful! I the words fill my heart with peace and confidence. Which doorway do I choose? I think to myself. It seems like an easy choice doesn't it? Dark doorway of insults, or an inviting doorway of peace and acceptance. The truth is, I am the drawn to the dark doorway, I believe the insults, I believe what the sinister figure says. I am pulled towards the smell of death and decay. But deep within, I hear the words of the door of light, and though I still feel that all the dark speaks of me is true, Inside springs hope. No! I will defy the darkness! I do matter! And I will live! I rebel against it's siren song of annihilation, and hurl myself towards the door of light! Darkness I am your slave no more!!! I will stand, and I will fight!!!!

Deep down we know we are nothing special, unique or beautiful. A grand delusion, something that just helps people sleep at night. We are just as unique as every other person on the planet, making us not so unique after all. But our culture , religion all want us to believe that we have a role to play in the grand scheme of things. Yet in vastness of the universe, we are a speck of dust.

It is true my friend, in the vastness of this great universe, we are like a speck of dust. And I respect your point of view, mine however is from a different angle. I do believe very strongly that all people are inherently special, and unique! And that these specks of dust are not abandoned and forgotten about, but very much known and cared about! I known just from your comment that you are sincere, and a talented writer! That in itself is very unique and special! I am in no way debating or saying what I think is better, I respect and am open to your viewpoint, and hope your are open to mine. They are difference of opinions, but I think that brings something very positive and helpful to our lives when we are open to it. Thank you for your comment, I appreciate you taking time to read my works. I truly mean that, Thank You!

Yes of course, I respect your point of view. I think whether it is free will or destiny, the outcome is anyway unknown to us, therefore if we view the world with a bit of hope , it will be more meaningful. Whatever version of a story we like, it's fine, it's our truth. :) And thank you for the poem too. I'm pretty new to the site n just wondering why I never heard of this place before, like I fit right in ;)

You're absolutely right! Those demons have ran my life for far too long. They never had power in the first place, but what I gave them.

Thank you for sharing this hope in despair, it is much needed, dear Hope in despair! It really resonates with me. I love the way you have written it. As much as I strive for the light, I think that darkness is important too and, combined with the light, allows us to make progress (both material and spiritual).

Yes my friend it does help us grow! The Darkness I refer to here is the darkness of judgmental labels that I let define my identity and existence for many years. But yes it's true I would not be who I am right now if it wasn't for my experience in both

Yeah I actually put this out before I read it😀 but I definitely like to look at things from different angles. It mainly has to do with not letting people's negative labels define you, which I have done for most of my life until a couple years ago. And it goes a bit deeper than that but I leave that open to imagination and interpretation
