The sun will rise today,
and bring along her pet projects and her vendettas
illuminate some new cases, cast others into an uneasy shadow
twisting complex physics inside another spinning gumdrop
Then dawn saunters in and slaps her sleeping boys awake
after an all-nighter on the other side of town,
declares, 'I am the cure, you are the disease',
then turns so her sons can watch her drifting away
the cold ground is aware of her advances, feigns distraction,
knows from experience how she gets, what she'll deduce,
coyly warms slowly, finally awakens as she announces her retreat
everything everywhere is seven sixteening
the sun rose today, it was cold
Now Main Street mainlining, driving south directly into her
this cold sun, all seeing, seven sixteening
leaving last night's indulgences and darkness, invisibility and secrets
the new transparency, now packed in quart size baggies,
overnight, it seems, the last of autumn's leaves have succumbed
to wind, the cold, incessant peer pressure
alibis are practiced, witnesses located
the solar burn glares unblinking on bare branches
a redirect, squirming under the glare of cross examination
the turn of time is a resourceful and dogged prosecutor
no plea deals, and there be/will be no clemency in the spring
all the drama in this shiny gumdrop of water
glittering objects in a common, visual culture
the sun rose today, it was cold, I don't know
7:16 or so

Another fantastic piece! I thought the "seven sixteening" phrase was a great way to demonstrate a focus away from the obvious and straightforward. The imagery of the dawn slapping awake her boys was excellent, as was the notion that "cold ground is aware of her advances, feigns distraction, knows from experience how she gets, what she'll deduce." I also think the ending was perfect, the juxtaposition of the common vs the poetic view of the same scene, reminescent of the Life of Pi or the Big Fish. Really excellent work, man! Ciao, T/S

In a single breath, a chain-of-events unravels, leaving objects and imagination to linger within the balance. Killer description throughout, and use of a strong narrative tone. .applauds. -Do write on
