Daddy's Favorite Color
By WillowGreybird
I wish I knew your favorite color.
Is it black like the shadows below your eyes?
Or purple like the bruises on your sides?
I've spent eternity guessing about it,
but I've never been right.
What about red? Out of all the world's crayons,
would you pick the cuts on your hands?
I know it isn't white,
the shade of Momma's wedding gown.
Why do you hate the Technicolor that lines the world, Dad?
What went wrong,
what tore the rainbow form inside of you?
Is your favorite color grey,
like the waxy tint of your skin?
Daddy, I need to know.
Tell me and I'll do
whatever it takes.
Be it the kind of blue
that can only be achieved by breathing in the nearby ocean,
the black the comes with the wind that swings the noose,
I will do
anything.
And then, maybe then,
you'll tell me you love me.
I wish I knew your favorite color.

Very revealing poem. Sadness, longing, need...but loved how you displayed his pain not only your own.

deep emotions well up within these beautiful words, your personality shines through the whole thing, it just leaves me speechless and gape mouthed. Beautiful words for a beautiful person.

His real favorite color was the amber within his bottles. So thank you. Some love just won't die.

This is beautifully tragic, and I like that the rhyming scheme was sporadic.

Beautiful. The simplicity of a daughter's love captured neatly and intensely. Anger, frustration, resentment, almost wishing the person you love didn't exist at all therefore saving you from your pain, your anguish. Begs the question, what IS the colour of love?

This is interesting and the form is heartbreaking. Do you know what lies beneath a broken heart that shattered in watercolors... I think so. A bold write with significant meaning. Flawless in all its form, welcome to the valley. Bows-

This actually really made me tear up. I have a very rocky relationship with my father. But anyway, this is really great. I love how it's written; how it flows.
