Death Comes Collecting Today...Remembering Fort Hood

By Malcholm Dark

A badge of bronze upon a suit of blue
To serve and protect that's what I do.
An inherent sense of wrong and right
I enforce mans' law with all my might.
There are times the hammer must fall
And there are times iniquity calls.
Directed by Death unto destiny's street
To the eyes of a madman, at last we meet.
My conscience set, I have paid what's due
But could this stranger have paid his too?

--I ride the line on winds of glory
I ride that line, they say.
--The razor's edge is my life story
Death comes collecting today.

A psychotic man, his gun does call
And innocent people begin to fall.
I face him down to return his fire
To stop this man is my only desire.
The Fort seems empty as shots echo 'round
Our bodies give way and fall to the ground.
The pools of blood and mounting fear
Anxiety comes with death closing near.
And in the distant a tranquil ring
I thought I heard an angel sing.

--I rode the line on winds of glory
I rode that line today.
--The razor's edge was my life story
Death came collecting...
                        and
                           I
                            had
                               to
                                 pay.

  • A former member wrote: Wow, this was an excellent piece flowed so easily from the tongue and screamed of bravery and sacrifice. With great imagery to seal the deal. Nicely done friend.

Flow and rhyme scheme throughout came out well and the harsh landscape you painted as well. Vivid, thank you for sharing.

What a powerful dedication to such a historical event. I felt like I was there defending the fort as well. That's great imagery for you. Thanks for yet another masterpiece. Scholar
