Things We Were
"We laughed and giggled as we stood over Mr.
zipper-head
Talking pictures of one another, even though he was
dead.
We were 'jolly green giants' with all the know how
Our
deeds accomplished then, we could never do now.
We were 'killer
elites' the best in the corps
Though when the war ended we wanted
no more.
--We were unlike anything ever seen
in Vietnam
that country of black dreams.
--We were necessary to mother green
and in that we were,
her
killing machines..."

We Fought
For A Cause
"I came home from the war
with no end in sight
My wife took the kids and left me out-right.
I wake from the terror, my bed soaked in sweat
Dreams of blood
and the fate my friends met.
The war wasn't over, I still lived
it each day
And received nothing in return, the American way.
So I killed an old man and felt nothing inside
Then I killed
another as my smile became wide!
I took up my rifle and killed
more innocent folks
A shrink deemed me crazy, yes missing some spokes.
Why? Why am I the only one living in this pain
You are all crazy
to me, I'm the one who is sane!
But I am strapped into this chair
awaiting my end
The preacher is praying to Jesus again and again.
--So remember my friends, their names on a wall
and remember
me too, if you have the gall.
--We fought for a cause so take off
your hat
but the cause was a lie,
can you imagine that..."

Wow that was amazing. Each part has it's own feeling, and this one really was bleak. I really liked this, a breakdown of a war hero. You can do no wrong, thanks for sharing.
