Dream Souls
By AdrianJ
I like to watch you,
asleep on your side, facing me...
Reading you like a tome of forbidden knowledge -
traversing each line
deciphering every curvature of the semi-colons in the corners of your eyes
Confined within the parentheses of hidden emotions
that shine through that armor you cling to so tightly even in repose.
The unguarded dusky light of your soul shining through
Lips, poised as if about to kiss...
I watch you stir into the small cupped petal of your ear.
I gently stroke your hair - ritualistically massaging your scalp until
I can see the return -
The receding into the formless waves of deeper tranquility.
The voyage of your slumber continues across oceans in a universal sea of
your consciousness.
You fix a course onto the sheeted, dark continent of my body....

the ending is so absolute; killingly beautiful and darkly brooding. and somehow grants a hypnosis from reality. . .. . a needed dream, barely awake...surreal somehow in that last breath

The last four lines. That's the heart and soul of this one, for me anyway. Beautifully composed.

Unless this is pure imagination, I see what you think of her from your words. I am glad that you have her, and I hope she knows she is blessed with heart-love. Not everyone gets more than need-love. The old saying is somewhat inaccurate. I believe beauty is in the HEART of the beholder. Nice word picture.

It's imaginary reality, if you will...When I fall in love with someone, I want to know their soul. I used to think that it was a measure of self-providence, collecting weaknesses to use at a later time when things are not as tranquil now.
