  • "Excellent piece, it is particularly effective in the way you humanize him in imagining the person's loved ones and back story. Well, well done! Ciao, T/S "

  • "you could say that, this poem has both literal and figurative meanings to me. I came across a dead body when I was in Iraq. His hands were bound and his face was a sickly purple. He had been tortured by AQI insurgents. That's where the first stanza comes from. The rest is basically reflection on how I felt as I was trying to cope with the abject horror I was feeling at the time. Thanks for the comment. "

  • "A glimpse of death maybe? Oh dear. Maybe it's backwards. A glimpse of a life you'll never get to know. It's sad."

  • "Thank you so much. I would like to be published but in all honesty I would rather give it away for free. It is therapeutic for me to write about my time in Iraq and Afghanistan. "

  • "I'm not gonna lie, I miss it too sometimes. Not all of my poems are about war though lol. We had a pretty rough go round back during the iraq troop surge in 07-08 and I just happened to be writing a lot in those days. I am off to Afghanistan next summer. Thanks for the comment."

  • "the opening lines are so chilling ... you're going in there , eyes wide open ... knowing you are almost 'sacrificing' yourself , the good parts of yourself... and quashing them to fulfill a perceived noble duty ... perhaps one of the most striking poems I have read on the subject to date ... thanks for that ~peace~"

  • "Welcome to the valley, this was tragically inspiring. There is a difference between a boy entering war naively and a man understanding what he's actually sacrificing. I look forward to reading more of you. Roam around and read others, it will lead them back to your work - XXOO"
