One Should Not Listen To Bright Eyes [when in this bad of state]

By asphyxia

*** "So I'm pouring some whiskey, I'm gonna get drunk. Yeah, I'm pouring myself some whiskey, I'm going to get really fucking drunk. I'm pouring some whiskey right now, I'm going to get so, so drunk... That I pass out, forget your face, by the time I wake up."

--Bright Eyes, "It's Cool, We Can Still Be Friends"

-----

I’ve got news
(Not sure whether
it’s good or bad).
It’s new news nonetheless,
or the same old news
just given a yank,
a big forceful yank
right to the front of my mind.

And it’s funny because
it feels just like it did before.
Yeah, I’m pretty sure I feel
the same way as I did before
[You and I in my parents’ garage
attempting a goodbye].

Your eyes used to shine.
I loved the way they shined.
Your eyes used to shine
…I can’t even remember
them anymore.

And it’s funny because
I’m pretty sure I’ll just regret this.
[Like the first night I slept-
over and in the bed with you].

Let’s just pretend
for a moment
(Just one minute
of make-believe)
that it still hurts.

[Pretty sure it still hurts
to think of you].

And maybe perhaps
I will admit
that I was foolish
(So foolish).

Because I’m not so sure…
Yeah, I’m pretty unsure…

..

[Let’s just say
it was the wrong goodbye.]

..

Another 4 a.m.
“I pour whiskey over you.” ***

Definitely like the lyrical feel to this. And the repetition? It fits in terms of thoughts of this kind and the internal conflict, that Disasembly Boy mentions. -Carl
