I Dreamt You Were a Window

By no one at all

i dreamt my house was on fire
i dreamt i was dreaming of you
the warmth of your smile
i woke in my dreams
to flames
licking my feet
and i screamed
ran to my door
but it just fell away
in the flmaes
disintegrated

my window came into view
my final chance to make it through
ran across my room
only to find
my window turned to you
i could always see through you
but could i ever
get past
you
without you
becoming
unglued?

it was sealed shut
much like you
so it was time to decide
do i die to keep you intact?
or shatter
you
to survive

i justify
what i did with the logic
that if
i were to stay
we'd both die
you would fall through
the wreckage
of our "safe place"
and i would burn alive
in my attempt
to save your life

so maybe i'm selfish
but i lived
and
left you
in
pieces

i dreamt you were a window

i'm sorry that i shattered you

  • A former member wrote: I like it. I much prefer using figurative language, twisting words, then saying things outright. Very often that ends up being nothing but a sob story, if you know what I mean. Some people believe that there is always meaning in dreams

  • A former member wrote: Quite different from what I expected.. Intriguing portrait of a dream. Well written.
