shiny penny

promises linger...
like shiny a shiny penny
-frozen under the last icy puddles

under the sun that glints;
like cold steel
-against a solemn tombstone.
all thats left of a man;
a father
...lover
.....son
is a mold-covered headstone.
dead roses wilted in mid-bloom.
grace the ghost of what was
with the rot of memory.
sweet with regret.
"Promise you won't forget me, no matter what"
the sheild brakes,
and it takes you a moment of dissapointment
- to realize its cold and rusty
to old to matter.
and you throw it right back;
swimming is abandonment.
what good are pennies anyway?
