You Can Always Dance

By Sticky Kitty

And then he said dance
as the world opened wide
to let souls be fools
while ashes yelled your secrets
and time seemed to be the tap of fingertips against skin

Your movements a rebellion
of basement parties
and dance clubs
where you lost your heart
to a pretty Portuguse boy
who took you into ink drawn eyes
and truth
the type of raw honesty
scribbled on bathroom stalls
in hurried marks of compassion
with precesion to touch somebody
elighten their minds
and set their thoughts to sinking

You overlapped the scripture in your lover's chapstick
and walked two miles
to spend 6,000 dollars on a coal baby
that fell through railroad tracks in a moment of passion
and glued to a sweat packed collarbone
when you danced
and he told you
"darlin' you make me wanna
DANCE
on you till raindrops fall as acid
and corode this smoke stick glow green bond

When that girl in beauty
said "baby I'm envy"
the first time you fell in love with a vagina
the last time

That time you attached yourself to a clear skinned cloudy headed mental patient
in an attempt to save yourself from your own ugly sickness
while you threw up the vitamins
and ran hallways at 87 pounds
scarring your gold
and writing death letters

And then he said dance
as the world opened wide
to let souls be fools
while ashes yelled your secrets
and time seemed to be the tap of fingertips against skin

    Beautifully done. And quite vivid!

  • A former member wrote: wow, this is incredibly complex and the image of time is compelling, the notion of dance and the dark imagery is surreal, excellent!
