The Awe of Airplanes

By no one at all

she exclaims, "airplane!"
whenever she hears one overhead
and i have to envy her awe
i'd like to feel so young again
the worlds brighter
when you have no comprehension
of whats out there
but theres no turning back
once you've figured out all of those
pesky little backroads
...shortcuts through life?
simple ways to get ahead...
i think i'd rather stay
far beyond and behind the
go getters in suits and ties
who think that the key to their
lamborghini's
are the keys to happiness as well
i'm perfectly content
with being a nameless
poet
a painter who has
no
direction
i think its beautiful
to stare in wonder at simple things
like the leaves
on oak tress
and orange blossoms in spring
i believe i'm learning to find the things
most people believe to be ordinary
extraordinary
unbelievable
complete marvels of the modern world
i am thankful that this six year old
is showing me that everyday things
can be amazing when you change
the way you think
and as i look up
at this cloud filled sky
another airplane
passes by

and its my turn to exclaim

"look squid! AIRPLANE!!!"

  • A former member wrote: this is amazingly aweing. it filled me with a soaring sensation, as it fell in a waterfall of words. pieces that capture hope and happiness successfully are so rare and very impressive.
