d i s t a n t.t h o u g h t s

By Lotophagi

… and everyone seems so

d i s t a n t

like moon under eclipse

but nothing seemed so bland
when before plastic packaged shape.

I wanted to tell you
such profound truths
and wisdoms that would
make you sit up and believe
that I
am really more

than what I am.

But my feet are dripping with water,
my eyes too strained to lie
and my breath is acrid and foul to taste.

What would you want with me [what would anyone want]?

And then I want to touch you
with my fouled hands [cold now and clammy],
poison your beauty with…. this [this body tainted with mind].

These thoughts they penetrate and pollute such assumed philosophies.

Perhaps instead if I could surrender
to this [earth-bound] body
I’d write you a thousand ending lines like

and without you surely this heart would dry…..
or
for when you are within me eternity is but a unity….

but I would be lying
because my mind does not belong
to the desires of this body
and you, you are only desires
because my mind has no physical manifestation
and you have yet to show me
a being beyond the disconnection
of body to mind and mind to body.

And even though I am fearful [or knowledgeable]
that I cannot reconcile my mind to body
to admit yours to both and both to yours
the hunger of need pulsates,
the aloneness of limbs taunts me
to gently imagine warmth of body
pressing in on me,
surrounding this being in comfort of mere humanity
as I surrender one to yours
and take for my own
only mind and matter.

I called for you, not expecting a return

please surprise me, just once.

excellently written, subtle and clear and bitingly poignant in conclusion; you've captured the ache beautifully.
