Pledge Your Allegiance to this America

By so_skeevy

There are a lot of things I just don’t bother with anymore. One of them is the pledge. Second period is when my school recites it. “Pledges their allegiance”. But to what? Sometimes it seems like it is simply to do whatever they are told. I say this not because I think it is wrong to have faith in your country, but because it no longer seems like our country we are pledging to. So why am I the only one in a class of nearly twenty that doesn’t stare glassy eyed at the corner of the room, droning on with meaningless jargon we memorized back in kindergarten? I do not pledge myself to our republic. I will not stand there like a robot and do whatever I am told no matter what our ‘republic’ does. Am I supposed to blindly follow while the government leads us to hell and back? The answer is yes. That is exactly what I am supposed to do.

I think this argument started way before Bush dear Amy. The world didn't begin with him, contrary to what you've been taught. ;)

i have never, ever stood up and pledged allegiance to our flag in my life, except for a few times when i was forced to. i like that you did this rant, it really makes stuff more noticable when someone else brings it out in to the open like this.

  • A former member wrote: Pledging allegiance was always required in the morning @ school.. So for quite a while I did it... Now, I wish I could go back in time, stand and rant about *certain* things I feel strongly towards and against in this country. Orchid

Very very true and very very real. I love the fact that you wrote this, because not many people can write something like this. I enjoyed reading it. ~*~Tart~*~
