The end of earth...

By Cwn Annwn

You wake with black water surrounding you. As everything grows cold you start to wonder where you have ended up, sleeping so peaceful in your bed...now surrounded by rancid smells and rotting bodies in this black river. As the sun starts to show just beyond the trees you push your way through some leech smothered corpses in a desperate attempt to reach the land on the left side of the river. The water is growing thinner as all you can feel is the weight of bodies, hardly floating in the small amount of water as it drains...but where is it going?
You finally reach the edge of the river and after some struggling you manage to shift yourself onto a rock that's sticking out of the ground. You fling some bugs, leeches and even some small slivers of bloody body parts off of your skin. When feeling so utterly alone you can't help but wonder where everyone is...after living in the city your whole life the woods are unknown territory. Some strength and courage manages to get you off your lazy ass and you start to wander in search of anything that might help you be on your way back to the comfort of home.

Ahhhh it reminds me of all those serial killer books i used to read. I reccomend you write one as this is the perfect atmosphere and imagery required... Quite impressed...

i totally agree with drifter...it ended perfectly.....and humans are much too "material needy"......a sequal wouldn't hurt though.... :) ~YeStErDaY~

i personally disagree with frumenti. It ended perfectly in my opinion, exposing the reality of humans seeking comfort beyond survival. Maybe i just overanalized it :) Anyway... great story. I had a vivid picture in my head the whole time.

So true. I love how that very misguided instinct is what will lead to 'The end of the earth...'. Very well done once again. I'm glad i'm not a nutcase too.

This is actually a good piece due to the imagery conveyed...it should have been much longer...the theme more explored...very good, though...-l-
