Ghosted

By Quietus

You took me to see Christmas lights
That’s when you told me I no longer needed to hide my heart
So, I let her out of her cage for you
She fluttered and danced for you
When I left with my sweater smelling of you,
She wouldn’t let me wash it off
I had her under my control
You conspired with her until she took control of me
When you decided you no longer wanted us,
No explanation
No closure
Not a single word
My heart disappeared, too
I looked everywhere for her
Desperate to lock her up again
I found her smelling the sweater I never washed
I gently picked her up and placed her back in her cage
I washed my sweater because I’m taking control,
But the sight of Christmas lights still makes me want to puke.

Here’s the story of how I let myself get close to someone for the first time in forever and promptly got “ghosted.”

This is a really tight piece, we think everyone has something from a previous relationship. They choose to keep these mementos of their past pains or good times. This say you chose to severe these memories, a pat on the back to you
