Snips , and snails , and puppy dog tail's
By midnights voice
Never had I a chance
to look at the future
but with a glance
I saw the world
from the rear window
of the car
While being driven
to destinations
near and far
So many miles
before I was five
Before I even
realized I was alive
And home was where
my grandparents lay
Maybe we could visit
on Christmas day
I walked long
and I fought hard
Always drawing short straw
or the blackest card
I spelled struggled
in colored crayons
With black and blue
and red let's be bygones
I learned to run away
at the age of three
There was no fence
that could hold me
Snakes and snails
and puppy dog tails
Emotional distrust
and bloody Hell
No little boy
should ever be
knapsack momentoes
of forgotten history

Wow, Midnight, this was such a poignant piece like looking at snapshots of your own life through another's words. Though I am a woman there were some things I could relate to. Aside from the melancholy, you couldn't help but to feel the nostalgia of happy times. Excellent! ~Devlin

Sad song with a familiar melody my friend. And now that we are older, it begins anew; as we become the crusty few, who remember when. Cheers! - Dan
