The Unpaved Road

By Zahtsk

I follow the unpaved road,
A dreary and desolate path.
I follow the path to eternal suffering;
Where the truths I do not wish to learn are learned.
I find myself wondering down this path with out my soul.
I walk with no guiding motion, just walking.
Waiting for the end.
While the walk is pleasant, in a faint manner,
The ending should be peaceful for me.
I will find the path that is behind the day;
And find that it doesn't mater.
I may find though the last few steps to the path,
The transition to the end will burn and hurt
But I carry on drearily.
Shouldering it as trained.
Listening to the silent tear drops that fall like lofty angels or leaves upon the unpaved path.
I feel those spirits around waiting for my false step,
Waiting to take me again back to the end,
Or even worse the start.
I wait for it to come to the close,
I think maybe just maybe I should run the path
However I know that I haven't any idea where to run.
I will just trail all my pain behind me like a tail
Till I reach the end.
Then I shall recover from shouldering and trailing
And be whole again at the end.
Where soft dreams, that never came to be with any substance, do find a home to rest in.
And my soul does return to me from its travels,
And all is peaceful.

    Reading this a second time its depth opened up wider to me. A quietly provoking piece. ~ wen
