The Ring
By midnights voice
.
.
.
She puts her forefinger and thumb upon the ring
and twists it around her ring finger on her left hand
Her eyes are furrowed in sadness as she looks out
the kitchen window to the lake below
She barely breathes for the pain rests sullenly
upon her bloody bleeding heart
She's had enough and it's time to make a change
Love rolls like thunder when it's concentrated
in a golden diamond ring
She can't take another breath
with the hate that fills the air
She can't speak without starting
another wildfire serenade
So she sits at the kitchen table
twisting around the binds
that says she is supposed to care
She pulls it off maybe to her first knuckle
Then she pushes back the ring
It has become more complicated
than it should have ever been
A tear falls upon her hand
when she thinks about all the
love she shared
Then she shudders when all the hate
takes it's place
and turns love into despair
She takes a deep breath and then slowly
pulls off her wedding bands
and lays them in the bowl on the table
Their is no wind but suddenly
she's feeling so cold like a knife
had just cut through her
She looks down upon the lake
and sees the sky's reflection upon the water
Half heartedly she says ,"It's not too late."
But she knows to the core of her soul
the flame has died
and it can never be lit again

Great piece and really good use of imagery to create a mood. The setting of her gazing out at a lake was very effective. I especially liked the lines "It has become more complicated than it should have ever been" - a think that is a simple line that resonates with MANY people. Good job! Ciao, T/S

Wow ... this was quite painful to read having tasted my fair share of divorce only there wasn`t a lake just the sun and a very hot day. At least with the lake there is peace and serenity; with the sun, there's only bitter and rage ... I remember that day very well.

Yes when two people are one and it comes to a separation there is only pain and destruction as the cutting apart occurs . And healing takes on a lifetime to happen . And all that remains are the mental photograph books that we flip through all of the time .
