Distant Shores
By Lady Grinning Soul
She sings
And the strings pull, left, right.
Achingly beautiful as
Her lips curl
Up
And the words flow out;
Songbird.
It is not for the love,
Nor for the beauty,
Not even for the sake of art,
That she laments for in forgotten tongues.
It is the only thing she knows.
Duty.
Sorrow.
Regret.
It all laid bare before her,
An offering
To gods of distant shores.

I really like that this poem carries a sad mood, yet directs the reader that the sadness is from within not from lost love but from sorrow, regret, and duty...I get burned out on love poems. and this reads like a looking out at a distant sadness...well done.
