It Always Finds Us
By Noel Haiasi
Let this flight of fancy be over
This dream that refused to die
Of overcoming the all consuming dark
And working toward a life renewed.
Let my internal cries be silencedÂ
For they always fell on deaf ears
Too busy listening to other things
That were much more important than I.
Release me into those dark waters
To be dragged to despondent depths
Left to be devoured by the abyss
And entombed by cold solitude.
End my being just rightly
Slaying that shadow beast below
By solemnly taking up the torch
And burning down it's home.
My horrid screams of self-loathing
That you only now suddenly hear
Allow you to finally realize
Yet all too late as my song gently fades.
The darkness has gripped my soul
And all I feel is sorrow and despair
Yet my tears refuse to arrive
For I am now out of time
And owe a debt for a final goodbye.
Goodbye to those I knew
I wish there was more I could do
But I have returned to the darkness
Which I thought I had left behind
Though I do have a piece of advice
For those who are so inclined
Don't believe you have escaped the dark
You're simply running on borrowed time.

Outstanding bummer NH, and sage advice to slam the door on any uncertainty, less we wax optimistic in a moment of temporary euphoria. This kind of poem always generates a sense of Schadenfreud in my psyche. Cheers and very well done! - Dan

I feel this same way, nothing to do but give in, I guess. No one truly cares, such is life. Good write.

just what willow said. The whole poem is good but those last two lines are brilliant. Nicely penned. TY
