Obsidian Sea

By Noel Haiasi

A colossal ship; a gentle captain
Set adrift in an obsidian sea
With titanic-sized waves
And winds that roar past deaf ears.

Bright glaring flashes of lightning
Angry, black storm clouds
Loom over the poor ship and captain
While suffocating the fragile sky.

The sails whip back and forth
Being beaten from every direction
And the captain slips and stumbles
Holding on for dear life.

The waves crash into the port side
The colossus wails and rolls over
The obsidian sea has mouth agape
And swallows the ship whole

The captain swims in darkness
Disoriented and feeling hopeless
He sinks further and further
Into the crepuscule abyss.

Murkiness meets desolation
As heated skin greets frigid cold
And blind eyes meet distant dreams
All within this obsidian sea.

An ocean of malicious darkness
Swirls in a whirlpool of anguish
And soft monotone melodies
Reflect the drowned thoughts of the captain.

An outstretched hand
Reaching for the shadows of sky
The obsidian sea howls and shrieks
Dragging the captain to the ominous sea floor.

A temperate heart lost
Now encased within blackness
As muffled sounds fail to reach
The bottom of the obsidian sea.
