"Looking Down"

By bpathos

Looking down I see the world
Around my neck the headphones curled
It's more of this or that
It tells me where I'm at
And in my mind the info swirls

Looking down I can't see ahead
People I love or a light that's red
It tells me if I'm OK
Tells me who on election day
And in my mind the facts are said

What will I do come a solar flare
No thoughts for me through the air
How will I survive on my own
When I am looking down alone
Does anyone think or even care

Looking down I missed my life
I never had real friends or a wife
It's something I don't think about
I've got data that soothes my doubt
And in my mind I can't feel the strife

Looking down I can't look around
To can't hear those awful sounds
I've built myself a fantasy
Custom made apps just for me
And my mind is calling me down

Looking down I missed the revolution
Looking down I missed our evolution
I belong to the hive one and all
So I saw no rise and felt no fall
Never looked up or saw my dilution

Looking down I am safely lost
Looking down there are no costs
Statistics say I'm doing fine
Who am I to say they're lying
Or how much is being tossed

I want to look up but I can't
Reading a super stars drunken rant
While my train has left the station
I have this horrible new sensation
I want to look up and I can't

I'm afraid my fate is all to plain
The future is not for me to see
Unless it's downloaded to me
Who I am will be explained
When my hard drive is drained

& Beautiful poetry. Loved 'safely lost'.

We can rarely see reality for what it is. What it is changes hugely through perception anyway. Yet with all these technologies and massive media influences telling us what's what it has become awfully difficult to keep in mind the simplicities that make up the important things in life. Like each other. I swear it all has us so wrapped up in ourselves.
