Inertia

By Salty Ships

Sometimes I dream that you have unpinned my heart from your ribs
an act performed so unceremoniously that you may have only been adjusting your tie
but I wake upright with my palm pressed to my chest
searching for a rhythm beneath the skin
and I fall back onto the bed
disappointed with stillness.
