Inertia
By Salty Ships
Sometimes I dream that you have unpinned my heart from your ribs
an act performed so unceremoniously that you may have only been adjusting
your tie
but I wake upright with my palm pressed to my chest
searching for a rhythm beneath the skin
and I fall back onto the bed
disappointed with stillness.

the elation and the crash. i know the pain that comes with that earnest desperate pining... Eventually you start feeling not good enough and invisible. i love the understated imagery, the tie metaphor, the brevity of the moment, everything about this. thank you for reminding me why my ex should stay my ex.
