I Am Not A Hero.
By XxxHauntxxxMexxX
He Stares Off Into The Pale Night Sky
Finishing His Nightly Smoke
Before Bed
It Calms Him
Well As Calm As He Can Be In Such
A Hostile Environment The Night Is Still Thick With The Smell Of Gun
Powder And Blood Soaked Ground
He Flicks His Cigarette Butt And
Watches It Fly
Thinking About The Fire Fight From The Month Before
Last
How Much Smoke And Fire And Carnage There Was
Remembering
The Sting Of A Bullet Grazing Him On The Shoulder
He Touches It
As In It Had Just Happened Because To Him
He Was Back In That Fire
Fight
He Screams In Rage And Starts To Go Apeshit
He Falls
To The Ground And Starts Punching It As If It Could Hit Back
His
Hands Become Bloody With Skin And Meat Hanging Off Of Them
He Screams
Again
Hes Breathing Heavy Slightly Sounding Like A Rabid Dog After
A Fight
He Looks Up At The Sky Again
Saying Why God Why
Would You Curse Me With Such A Big Burden
Then He Remembers Back
To When He Was Training
He Was So Young Then
Untanited By
Death And Despair
He Tries To Collect Himself To Head Back To His
Bunk
But He Can't Seem To Get Himself To Move
All He Wants Is
To Get Rid Of The Demons Locked Inside Of His Head
Manifesting
As Flash Backs Of All The Destruction He Was Apart Of
He'll Never
Be The Same Again He Thinks to Himself
He Thinks Of His Family
His Brothers And Sister
How Will They Look At Him Now
Will
They See The Blood That Taints His Hands
Will They See Him As He
Sees Himself
Or Will They Just Think Of Him As Some Hero Of War
I Am No Hero He Thinks As He Punches The Ground Again
Leaving
Bloody Knuckle Prints In The Sand
He Finally Gets Himself To Move
Slowly At First Then He Finds Himself Running
He Gets To Where
His Bunk Is At
Opens The Door Walks Over To His Place Of Rest
Takes His Pants And Shirt Off
Pulls His Army Issued Blanket Back
His Final Thoughts Before Falling Deep Into His Place Of Never Ending
Nightmares
Is
Im Not A Hero Of War
I Am An Angel
Of Death To Those Of This Country
I Will Never Be A Hero Of War
Ever
He Finally Drifts Off
To A Place Where He'll Never Let
Himself Forget
To A Place Where He'll Never Be At Peace
He
Is In His Mind
Where Heros Of War Never Truely Rest

Somehow I feel this poem is linked to the first one I read about someone killing and destroying.... Maybe it may be the same person, but I think it's your father who went to war and came back.... maybe?! Not sure though.

a good start... you have a sense of imagery that will continue to do well if it continues to develope.... and the internal struggle of this piece is very vivid and well displayed
