DAMN
By Demosthenes
ive been contemplating whether to post this in paragraph form or not. ive
decided to. if you think it shouldnt be in paragraphs, let me know, kay?
kay. -B
DAMN.
damn the theory, damn the system, and damn the man. yes, ESPECIALLY damn
the man!
they think we'll get better! they somehow think that what we wear could
possibly have any influence over whether or not we've got fucking brains.
and damn us! for obeying the bastards who aparently own our very souls.
damn us for not screaming, "to hell with the rules, and to hell with the
system!" goddammit, we did nothing! why? because we're afraid. sure, there
are hundreds of them, but there are THOUSANDS of us, yet we're the ones
who are scared. for a blasted year we conformed to their demands. a year!
because we didnt think there was a bloody thing we could do about it. because
we werent willing to risk a little document on a little piece of paper
going home to our parents that said we were insubordinate. god forbid we
have opinions, and GOD FORBID we are unique. for a fucking year we took
the shit they smeared in our faces. sure, we found our loopholes. sure
we wore four layers when it was 90 degrees inside. sure we tied strings
onto our flipflops so they passed for having backstraps. but when they
told us to unzip our jackets, we DID. and when they told us to button up
our white collared shirts, we DID. and when we went to the office to pay
the bloody fine for leaving our books in the halls, we were suspended for
wearing our pants too low.
and by god we bore it. we bore the anger, and the fury. we bore it together,
and we bore it with pride. we bore the comtempt, and the hate, and we let
it boil in our guts for seven hours a day, five days a week. and it burned
us up inside, because we were too stupid, and too weak, and too afraid.
we were too afraid to shout "FUCK OFF!" when they told us our khakis were
too green. we were too afraid to ignore their constant ceaseless taunts
about the length of our skirts.
so now we pay for it. we pay for our cowardice by being robbed of more
of our rights, by being denied more of our freedoms. we pay because we
didnt stop it when it wasnt "THAT bad." now we are mindless drones. now
they tell us how high our heels are to be. now they regulate our jacket
color, our HAIR color. NOW, they tell us that our shoelaces--OUR FUCKING
SHOELACES!-- have to be white.
so we'll curse them silently. we'll dress someone up as a poor man and
have him hold a sign that says "Need Money for Child's School Uniform."
and we'll take a picture, and make buttons, and pin them to our purses
and backpacks. we'll sit on the floor in our bathrooms at four in the morning,
writing about how much we fucking hate the school system and everything
it pretends to stand for.
but before august eleventh, we WILL go out, and we WILL buy white shoelaces.
Because we are still afraid.

brings back lots of memories... like wearing shirts with bands around the bottom so we wouldn't have to tuck them in... (can't tuck in a sweatshirt, right? we just found shirts with the same band around the bottom...)

okay the shoelaces thing is ridiculous, but I have to say that I wished when I was in school they would have had uniforms, it would have probably made my life a lot easier.
