Shadow

By With love_Crow

Who is this here
Beneath my feet
That follows me
Haunting me

It stands so clear
A beacon of darkness
So mockingly
So tauntingly

An obscure reflection
On the cement
It walks with me
Right underneath

Is that who I am?
Or am I fake?
Which is the real me?
Which is the phony?

Everything is upside down
Or right side up
Why can't I see
What divides me?

Am I a ghost
A parasite
Grasping tightly
Onto anything

Maybe I'm just
An empty shell
Both Reflecting
And refracting

Why do I fade
Into myself
When the light leaves
And night conceives

Perhaps I'm nothing
But a past life
Still wandering
Still questioning.....

Ode to a life of curiosity.

  • A former member wrote: I like how you have a continuous structure within the poem. Also, it is good as it shows questions someone could be asking about their own shadow. Wondering if it is a part of them or who is the real one. Really good :)

Nice job writing on a standard theme, yet in a very engaging presentation. Well done, thanks.
