Life Along The Bible Belt
By Malcholm Dark
Stand
up and shout...
When Sunday comes all the fun shuts down
If you're looking for booze wear a frown
You and your friends can
just turn around.
The men here are farm bred
Yes, hard
work and corn fed
Failed profits are widespread.
Indians
on Reservation land
Living the poor life and not so grand
So
they pray to God and withstand.
We are God's children, we are
devout
Give praise to Jesus, stand up and shout
This is what
life here is all about.

Now the farmers are
all but gone
Land Developers sing their song
Greed and money
live on and on.
Casinos on the Rez, what a switch
The once
poor tribes are filthy rich
And God moved on, ain't that a bitch.
The preacher man, he needs our money
He lives a life of milk
and honey
Our winds of change they seem so funny.
And where
is God within this maze
Is he waiting for the end of days
Do
you believe what the bible says?

I once lived in a bible belt, attitudes were different... I couldn't find beer on Sundays for my football games...Comments on "Life Along The Bible Belt"

Money and instant gradification appear to be the new god, It's all fucked up but then everything we touch eventually gets all fucked up. I like your sense of humour, timing and the message it's driving. great write.

Hallelujah, "And God moved on, ain't that a bitch." I think he went to the slots himself lol. Another amazing work, with your own brand of subtle humor. Write on.

What a very succinct and eerily accurate description, Malcholm. The dead pan delivery is top notch as well. Outstanding, man, really. Thanks for continuing to keep me coming back to your works list. You are definitely an all time favorite poet of mine. Something tells me that's not likely to change any time soon either. --Draven.
